Trekkfugler (The green Country)

Director: Silvia Rossi

Two friends spend the weekend in a modern and luxurious cabin in the woods, discussing their life choices and their concerns regarding the consequences of climate change, including the impact of global warming in bird’s migration. But at the same time many contradictions arise from their actions, life style and attitude.

Their attempts to fully immerse in nature look forced and awkward, constantly interrupted by technology and challenged by the almost sinister presence of a flock of migratory birds. But a sudden change of perspective will lead them to a new state of awareness. Are those birds trying to tell them something?

Trekkfugler is a dialogue driven satirical film about the duality towards our concern for the health of the planet and the believe that we should live sustainably, in contradiction with the life standards we are not willing to give up.

The connection with nature and the environment is claimed as a primary value in Norway, which is considered, mostly rightly, one of the "greenest" countries in the world.  At the same time, the Norwegian wealth is built around an oil industry that ranks third in the world for extraction and supply of fossil fuels, making it (albeit partially indirectly) one of the countries most responsible for greenhouse gas emissions.

Trekkfugler uses Norway as a scenario for a large-scale representation of contradictions that we all face on a daily basis and a tension that is both collective and personal between environmentalism and development, between sustainability and progress, between embracing the social and cultural advantage of economic stability and condemning the consequences of capitalism on the environment.
